Bought for my daughter's pet rats in preparation for moving house. We originally intended to use the cardboard option, but during test flight of this idea they quickly caught on. It seemed like a terrible idea, as the move meant the rats would be in the car for hours with three kids, two dogs and a cooler full of canned fish. And a partridge in a pear tree. I'm really glad I bit the bullet and bought this because the rats lived in it for about 4 days. They obviously needed time to move outside, but they didn't even try to chew on them and seemed much calmer inside than in the cardboard box. It was easy for my daughter to carry and although our dogs don't try to eat rats I believe it would protect them if that was a problem. The "lock" is easy to use, but not so simple that the animals can understand it. It's also easy to clean and doesn't absorb urine as it's not cardboard. After draining and washing with water and dish soap, there is no smell. I was going to sell it after the move was complete, but since it seems like we're always rescuing and rehabilitating birds and small animals, I'm going to keep it so we don't have to search for the crate every time. .
