At first I was glad to get this backup hard drive, it's small, portable, clean design, nice black color. It was packaged in an easy-to-open protective box, and the basic instructions were clear and simple: connect the drive to your computer with the cable that came with it, and download the Seagate Dashboard app to start backing up. I did just that and at first it looked like I was off to a great start. The dashboard app isn't the fanciest, but it seems enough to get the job done. However, if you fast forward about 2 hours to 80% backup, the hard drive will start beeping intermittently. I didn't realize the drive had speakers, so at first I thought I heard something outside my house. Over the next 10 minutes, the beeps gradually increased in frequency until it became clear that they were driving and could be heard every second. I also found that the drive no longer supports backups at this point. Thinking something was wrong, I unplugged the drive, restarted Dashboard, and plugged the drive back in. No luck, the drive was now not recognized by my computer through either the file system, Device Manager, or Disk Manager, or the Seagate Dashboard application. He was still beeping. I repeated this process several times, tried different ports, different computers, different cables, nothing worked. Seagate technical support is completely useless. I felt like I only got emails from them. Most didn't even reply to whole chunks of my email, basically suggesting that I troubleshoot by trying a different computer, restarting the computer, etc. I am very disheartened by the fact that the company's hard drive fails only partially on first use. Luckily, Revain has a fantastic comeback program! I will no longer buy from Seagate.
