Versatility and adaptability: suitable for children and seniors

As an experienced nanny, nanny, tutor, substitute teacher and aunt, I'm always looking for fun games and activities to sharpen my mind. I used this game with an elderly man with dementia and it helped him focus, exercise his speech muscles (including spelling and word recognition and memory skills), made him think of options, gave him a way to interact with other people, and distracted him from negative thoughts. The guide includes several variations of normal competitive play that are fun for children of the same skill level. The idea is always to make more words than your opponents by placing single letter cards before word-ending cards. It was easy to customize the game to suit your needs and abilities. The speed, multiple decks to choose from, and multiple players playing at the same time would be exciting for kids but completely confusing for him, but these simpler options work great. his hand. If he has to fold, I just put the discarded cards under the deck to avoid confusion. I collect the words he came up with, set them aside, and then hand him a new Word End card while he picks a new card for his hand. Seeing the words laid out on the table makes him feel good about how good he is. I just regularly sort through the used cards and shuffle them and add them to the draw piles when I want to extend the playing time. So that he can play with his grandchildren, we simply place an end card in the middle of the board, a draw card, and a discard pile, and they take turns. If someone can form a word, they collect the word and reveal a new card with the end of the word, and play passes to the next player. If they can't speak a word, they discard and draw a new card, and their turn ends. I think these devices would work well with special needs students as well, and I think it would be easy for other people to figure it out. their own variations. In all versions you have to decide if any of the letters you have can form a legal word with the end cards available, and if you have multiple options you can practice choosing one of the options. Strengthens phonics, reading and spelling skills.
