The battery compartment cannot be opened. The screws only turn but never come out!

Can't get screws out of hole holding battery cover. I need to take them to a friend who can fix things to put batteries in. I haven't tried the plugin route yet. Very disappointed as the earlier model of this fan I have does not allow the battery compartment to be opened either. I will revise this review when I put the batteries in.
