Review on Set Of 6 Aquasana Glass Water Bottles With BPA-Free Lids, 18 Oz Each by Justin Munajj

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Love the bottles HATE the lids

I got tired of plastic water bottles that had a smell and taste to them after awhile so I decided to switch to glass at home. At this price I can always have another cold bottle ready when I want it. I was noticing sometimes I would drink a soda just because it was easier than finding and filling my water bottle (yes I am lazy!)so now it is just as easy to grab water!I was excited at the possibility of putting them in the dishwasher but that has not worked out for me because unlike a glass there is a neck so I found dried soapy residue stuck in there. If your dishwasher has some means of making them stand perfectly upright that might work for you but mine doesnt! SO I wash them by hand but generally do them all at once about once a week since I am the only one drinking out of them and only put water in them I will refill them a few times before washing them. The glass itself has an irregular look to it and does not exactly look nice but doesnt bother me at all. The etching on it is well done so overall they are not bad to look at.There are two 'downsides' if you want to call them that. The first is the caps. I hate the shape and they feel really cheap. They are smooth and short and their diameter makes it just hard enough to get a grip on them when you are trying to open them. I have had them for 3 months and in one of the lids the silicone ring that makes the seal has come unglued so that sometimes it pops out and onto the floor. This may be a fluke since it has only happened to one of them but still wish they made better lids! The second 'downside' is they are not covered like the life-factory ones so they are cold and slippery and produce lots of condensation out of the fridge. I specifically did not want a semi-permanent cover like the Life factory or Takeya bottles because reviewers indicate they are hard to clean and some said they would start to smell bad. SO this is not really a downside to the bottle- its more of a trade off I guess. I immediately started looking for a holder that I could put a bottle in- I have a neoprene one for my Camelbak but it is too tall for these shorter bottles and indeed most that I could find are too big. I finally found a few things that will fit. The easiest is MOST (not all) cheap can koozies (similar to this The Hangover One Man Wolf Pack Can Cooler ) will fit though they are short. I found a tall one that is PERFECT on ebay and it is slip without adding bulk. WHy Aquasana does not make something like this for their smaller bottles I do not know! The other thing that works is BUILT Neoprene 20 30 Ounce Bottle Tote, Black though you have to select the 18oz size- the 20-30oz is way too tall (amazon wont let me link to the 18 oz size). This option is more padded/bulky and the handle/clasp is annoying sometimes but I love it when I am going out and about. When at home I prefer the cheapo can koozie from ebay! Note- I just found that you can buy silicone sleeves directly from Aquasana. That was not true 3 mos ago when I was originally shopping- I suspect they are hard to get on and off meaning you wont want to do it every time you wash them so still prefer having the neoprene that I can slip on when I get it out of the fridge, but it is nice they have that option. If they appear on Azazon I may try them. At $24 for 6 sleeves and caps along with the original cost of the bottles they are still much less expensive than the other silicone covered options.

Pros
  • Lightweight durability - glass is one of the most trusted materials for centuries which makes it perfect to hold the water you need to stay hydrated
Cons
  • The bottles may not have the same insulating properties as other materials, such as double-walled stainless steel, meaning that they may not keep beverages cold or hot for as long
