To update over WIFI you need to be driving to your destination, don't know why , but if you don't get an update error message I gave 4 stars because I had to search the web to resolve an issue that shouldn't have been a problem in the first place 2. Use Garmin Express on PC or Mac to find large Get updates faster before using3. Aside from that one issue, it's a great GPS so far. Just sit and play with it and read the instructions. I know it's not as simple as random, but there are so many complaints about them breaking. This is the best option4. Great suggestion this unit is electronic and generates heat, do not leave it in the window while driving in the cold in hot weather without a defroster to keep the unit cool and in winter try to keep it away from the heat or when possible keep away from low heat. I am almost certain that this is why these devices fail due to overheating of the battery and components
