Review on 📀 Enhanced Philips DVP5992 DVD Player: Full HD 1080p HDMI Upscaling, USB 2.0, and DivX Ultra Capabilities by Original Mansel

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A few glitches here and there, but there are plenty of powerful playback options!

I was able to throttle this device with an 800x336 pixel AVI file that was ripped out and doesn't support said resolution. It played 99% of the movies thrown at it, but didn't understand some MP3 files, either due to the length of the filename or the bitrate of the encoding. The unit is thin and light and the disc tray looks fragile - the instructions say it can't be pushed in manually and I can see why. As long as you take good care of your audio gear this shouldn't be a problem - if you have a lot of clumsy mentally disabled people with you - it will probably break in a year if not sooner. I couldn't test the HD capabilities of this because of the old TV - I had to run an old-school vanilla video output setup with RCA cables. It still works and looks great, there is also a Svideo output in addition to the HDMI output and the usual 3 color DVD cable outputs. It's learning how the player works and burning a DVD accordingly, and you can use this thing to automatically read mp3 from DVD like a giant jukebox or play your downloaded movies - very handy. It can read data from the hard drive and play media files via the USB port on the front - very cool.
