Normal case, tight fitting, no double-headed USB cable

This is a basic IDE case. I had an IDE drive that I salvaged from my old (really old) laptop that ended up dying. I figured I might as well get data from it and use it as a simple hard drive. Also, my hard drive is an IDE SSD, so I figured it might as well be. What caught my eye was the USB cable that came with it. The USB cable was about average length but didn't have an additional USB connector coming out the other end for extra power. Most of these cases usually come with this secondary cable, but that's no surprise. At the same time, it did not interfere with the connection of the hard drive. As with most mini USB cases, if you accidentally hit the neck, which is what happened with this one, the cable can come loose. In case of power issues I wanted to test the drive to make sure it was working as it has moving parts. I tried the IDE drive and it stayed connected with no problems. My IDE drives are less than 60GB, so I can't confirm if there are issues with larger capacity drives. The installation part is pretty easy. There is a notch that you can press and remove the top. Don't remove the top too quickly as you could break the tabs. The sideplane is removable and I would recommend removing it to avoid bending the pins on the IDE drive during installation. You still need to insert it at an angle so the connectors line up with the hole. . Again, do not use force and be careful as you can still bend the pins at this point. The case is a bit tight so heat was a bit of an issue. During longer operation you can feel the heat of the drive. Closing the lid wasn't difficult, but opening it again was a bit frustrating. The case isn't shockproof at all, so don't drop it. You can hack the case and damage the drive. As far as transfer speeds go, you're limited by the fact that Mini-USB is used instead of Micro-USB 3.0 or Type-C. So don't expect it to be lightning fast. Overall I'm happy with this case and it allows me to continue using my IDE drive even though it's outdated. It's a smaller tool so I never have to worry about having a screwdriver to open it. It's a basic case so I don't expect it to protect my drive well. The only downside is that it can be a bit tricky to open if the disc is already inside. The locking tabs feel a little flimsy which worries me, they will break over time. The USB cable is simple and has no additional USB power supply. I haven't had any problems connecting my current drives, but I don't know if larger IDE drives will have problems. The transfer speed isn't bad for a mini USB, but again I didn't expect it to be lightning fast due to the outdated technology.
