Review on External USB Video Capture Card by Arturo Reyes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Brought new life to an old video camera

Due to Covid the organization I am part of was forced to move their annual conference somewhere else that does not have the built in video conferencing equipment that we usually use . We considered buying an expensive webcam ($800+) with an optical zoom lens that could be placed at the back of the auditorium and zoom in on the speaker. Then I read that I could use my old camcorder (early 2000s) for this since it outputs video and has an optical zoom lens. All I needed was a video capture card. I was skeptical. But it worked great! No software downloads required. I simply connected the S-Video cable from the camcorder to the video capture card and then plugged the card into my Mac (USB 2.0). And there was a video! I also tested it with composite video cables and it worked great; although I will use S-Video for a clearer picture. This saved me nearly $800.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
