Coming from the EOS R, this camera is everything I wanted from the R. Everything I loved about the R is still there: focus accuracy, face and eye detection, and a bright and comfortable electronic viewfinder. The R5 goes one step further, offering a near lag-free viewfinder (higher resolution!), very fast autofocus with eye/face detection, IBIS and many more features. Most important to me is the lag-free viewfinder and ability to focus to keep up with my kids and still be amazingly accurate. The only downsides I've seen so far are the rather short battery life. UPDATE: Camera still works great. I'm not a video shooter but if I was I probably wouldn't be happy since all high speed/high quality modes have short usage times. In addition, after a few hours of taking photos without video, many video modes are not available or are only available for a short time due to the heat. I started recording 4K HQ and got an overheat warning within 2 minutes. Another issue I'm having is that Wi-Fi isn't working at all on my device. I can't connect to one of my wireless access points to try out the photo syncing features I was trying to use. Not everyone has this problem, maybe I have a defective device. I will contact Canon technical support. UPDATE 2: During some photo shoots last week I found that taking a photo not only decreases the available video time but also causes the camera to feel physically warm which I have not experienced with any other camera. would have. For that reason, and because of the Wi-Fi issues I'm seeing, I'm going to dock this one star for now. UPDATE 3: I believe the Wi-Fi issue is not related to my specific device and is caused by one of the wireless access points in my neighbors' houses. There is something not to like about this R5. I've seen other people's posts with the same issues, so hopefully this can be fixed with a firmware update. If this is fixed with a firmware update I will upgrade the rating to 5 stars. As for the overheating issue, the camera continues to get a bit warm during recording, but from what I've read this is normal for a mirrorless camera with IBIS.
