Favorite brand of charcoal pencils.

By far my favorite brand of charcoal pencils. I use quite a lot of charcoal for my portraits, but I always use my Generals soft charcoal. These pencils are highly pigmented and you can blend them easily with a blunt or even just your finger. Also, a white charcoal pencil is essential for me when working on portraits! I'm not a big fan of putty erasers, but this is actually a good quality eraser (and lots of fun to play with!) The only brand of charcoal I buy more than once. For those of you wondering what is the best way to sharpen those pencils. (or another charcoal pencil) I always recommend using a razor blade, which gives you control over how much you want to shave and lets you choose the shape and sharpness of the tip. Just be careful. Always use the blades with care or ask an adult to help you.
