These brackets make it very easy to assemble a very strong swing frame. Having just assembled one, I can offer a little advice. I've read that people had to sand the ends of the wood to fit into bowls. I had a 4x4 that was wet and bloated and didn't fit. I figured I could use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process. It wasn't true, but the hair dryer really helped. Heat the metal sleeve for ten minutes (until it feels hot), it will expand and the problem is solved. Assembly order matters. The 4x6 upper beam is very heavy. Start attaching staples to it. You can then insert the 4x4 legs into the brackets with the beam on the ground (top to bottom). If you have strong help you can just do all four legs and flip it over. If that doesn't help much then you want to make two legs and then flip it over with the beam acting as one of the three legs. Take the ladder and attach the legless end of the beam to the ladder. Then insert the two remaining legs into the bracket. I'll probably make a 2x4 crossbar with legs for extra stability. You can combine 2x6 and 2x4 into a beam and legs, but as they are the only support for the structure this seems impractical. Get 4s and just finish it. Also less work. Size matters too (sorry). I went with a 10 foot skylight. The brackets eat up 1 foot on each side. So you have 8 feet to swing. That's enough for 3 swings, and 4 can even work. The brackets will likely support a 12ft top beam, but good luck with the build (see above). I chose 9'+ for the legs. Higher beam means more turning distance and more fun. Be sure to get a swing with longer chains (mine is 66 inches). I'll apply some Thompson impregnation to the wood after it's dried a bit. Give it a more finished look. My daughter needs some structure. swinging on a swing so that the tired one doesn't get any rest, but even if it distracts her for a while, she might forget it completely.
