Review on Parks Audio's Puffin Phono DSP: An Ideal Preamp for Enhanced Vinyl System Sound by Shree Carmean

Here's something about my dead end: It's for weak records. You know you like the album about 70% of your collection, but you know that the actual record you bought could be deeper and punchier, either because of the mastering or because of "weaker grooves" that you might find in a find another copy . Or that 180 gram "audiophile" record you got from your favorite band, recorded and released digitally to make more money off the trend. If you're worried about the Aja fading, save your tube amp and use it on your best recordings. For the rest, use Puffin.(((It's important to note that I'm saying this by driving the audio almost entirely from the player -> to the phono stage -> to the headphone amp -> to the headphone. Nothing gets through with my poor quality receivers and my listening time is mostly limited when wife and kids are asleep))) Puffin did a great job of making most of my collection sound good for once. I've been riding vinyl without EQ for years. I had a habit of just pulling out big guns from the 70's that sounded great while listening to my tin can. Rupert Hine once produced reissues of Rush's "Presto" and "Roll the Bones" only to leave them on the shelf just to add to my Rush collection. And Puffin does a lot more than just a simple equalizer, which I'm sure you'll find out with further research. I get the sound that suits me and I enjoy forgotten CDs from my collection that channel my inner Bob Ludwig. I write down the settings I've fine-tuned on a small, torn piece of paper and put it in my jacket for easy reference and changing next time I take it out. And I found DSP didn't ruin the listening experience. This is much better than listening to headphones through the receiver. What else can I say? I enjoy spinning records that I gave up like crap a long time ago. The investment was worth it for me. I am sure you will agree if your audio chain was similar to mine. Enjoy!
