I bought this to use as a portable stand for my 12.9 inch iPad. It is definitely portable and folds into the compact form shown in the photos in the product description. It also comes with a carry case. This allows it to be stored without scratching other items. The stand is wide enough for my large iPad so I'm not worried about it tipping to one side or the other. While tipping side to side isn't a problem , it doesn't make my tablet slide off the front panel, it definitely is. There are rubberized surfaces strategically placed in all places for the device to sit, reducing scratching issues. The problem is that these soft surfaces are also slippery. Two small pegs that fold in to hold the bottom of the iPad just slippery but only tilted slightly above level which also doesn't help gravity much allowing your device to slide forward with little effort.
