Older desktop computers may not have enough USB power to run them. A powered USB hub is the answer.
This is my second Buffalo hard drive. The first worked without problems, but had a built-in power supply. This device does not have a built-in power supply, it is only powered by the USB port. It didn't work at all (neither did Seagate). Buffalo Technical Support resolved the issue and I realized that a powered USB port is required. I used a 7-port USB 2.0 pluggable charging hub (only USB 2.0 ports on my desktop) and problem solved. Now this device works exactly as expected. I stored the first disk off-site for backup. Only use this one to back up your Windows 10 desktop.
