With mods, this kit works flawlessly.

Priced as a functional kit for routing hinges, strikers and latch/bolt covers in standard thickness doors. It's easy to use and accurate as long as you take a few precautions: the plastic gauges go into the frame and stay there through friction. The templates have small plastic "ramps" molded into them that tighten the fit when you press the template into the frame. 1) The frame with the plastic templates consists of approx. 16 ha. stamped and pressed sheet metal, chrome-plated after forming. The BIG negative of their quality control process is that they didn't clean the sharp edges after the stamping process and cut those sharp edges into the "ramps" and shave them off every time you change the stencils. The first thing to do when you receive your kit is to soften the inside edges with 320+/- sandpaper. This makes the templates easier to install and extends their lifespan. 2) The holes in the frame for mounting screws are just straight holes (not recessed), which doesn't work well with self-tapping screws. Vix bit center drill. I drilled holes in my frame to make using the vix bit more practical. 3) Buy a bottle of cutter bearing grease and keep the pilot bearing lubricated so the outer race that rides on the plastic templates doesn't rotate on contact. with template. If you neglect this and let the bearing seize and spin the outer race, the friction will destroy the patterns. Don't forget to rotate the bearing by hand before routing and you'll be fine. Assemble the parts exactly as they were delivered when new. Buy a cheap (or not-so-cheap) mini-suitcase-style plastic case with removable bins (from HF, Stanley, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Sortimo, or Tanos) and some Kiazen [.] Fastcap Kaizen Foam 57mm (2-1/4") Black]] and organize the kit wisely. With the minor modifications above, this kit should last you a long time. Even if you do end up wearing out the stencils, the price is low enough to make the kit a replacement every few years or after Need.Compared to the price of high-end professional equipment, you can buy six or eight (or more) of these kits for the price of one of their kits. And this kit is more versatile than many professional kits.It all depends on how often you use it your work and whether it suits your needs.
