Virtually useless on door frames with existing trim and doorstops

I already had a Ryobi for the door grooves and door strike plates. Purchased for door jamb and strike plate. Turns out it's pretty much useless for finished frames (like trims and stops). The standoff knobs are thicker than the typical 1/4" gap between the post and trim, so the block cannot sit flat on the post even if you remove it. Instead, you'll need to create shims (as indicated) that still hold the jig in place continue to raise away from the post face to the point where the template…

Pros
  • Reusable packaging for storing stencils when not in use
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Roughly designed and badly built. better than nothing.

I'm an experienced wood carver but new to hanging doors. As there are no other door hangers to compare this to, maybe I'm being too harsh. However, this jig is what you would expect from a "cheap" jig - crude design and poor construction. Others have already commented on the quality of construction. I'll focus on the design. 1) To determine the distance between the hinges and the front of the door, attach a cam to the front. But the cam flexes quite a bit, giving an error margin of almost 1/16…

Pros
  • Easy to use inlay template with strong steel frame
Cons
  • Something different

With mods, this kit works flawlessly.

Priced as a functional kit for routing hinges, strikers and latch/bolt covers in standard thickness doors. It's easy to use and accurate as long as you take a few precautions: the plastic gauges go into the frame and stay there through friction. The templates have small plastic "ramps" molded into them that tighten the fit when you press the template into the frame. 1) The frame with the plastic templates consists of approx. 16 ha. stamped and pressed sheet metal, chrome-plated after forming…

Pros
  • Easy to use snap-in template with templates clearly marked
Cons
  • Not sure
