I wanted to replace a similar sized shoulder bag with a backpack to better distribute the weight when carrying it. I'm a petite person (5'1", weigh less than 110 pounds) and this bag fits me perfectly. It fits my 13" HP laptop, power cord, mouse, 5 x 9" software, 9 x 12 inch portfolio and 35 ft tape measure and leaves room for all the extras like a small cosmetic bag, cell phone, pens, wallet, etc. sunglasses, etc. I slip a 20 ounce water bottle (the diameter of a car cup holder) in my side pocket but I stretch it to the limit. I usually put my compact umbrella in the other side pocket. The only improvement I would suggest is the two-way zip on the additional compartment. My only complaint is that the Cabin smelled awful at first Almost fishy or rotten I sprayed it with rubbing alcohol and then applied febrize a couple of times with some success but found putting a few drops of essential oils on cotton swabs un d put them in each compartment to eliminate the bad smell.
