I chose this bag over other similar ones because the cooler portion actually completely comes off from the bottom of the bag. I live 15 minutes from the ocean and sometimes a quick trip to the beach is all I'm doing and therefore the cooler attachment works perfectly for a few drinks. On other days when it is going to be an all day trip and a full sized cooler is used, it is nice to be able to only bring a beach bag. The pockets don't hold too much, but are a great place for keys and cell phone. Biggest thing I don't like about this bag is there is no "protected" pocket. All of them have the mesh so sand will get in all places (other than the cooler). Otherwise it is a great bag that holds two full sized beach towels, snacks, tumblers, cover ups and sunscreen in the bag portion with room to spare.
