I live in an old house with plaster walls. In the main corridor, 50 paintings hang from nails driven in over the past 57 years. The nails bend and break the plaster when inserted, worse when pulled out, leaving small craters in the plaster. When we painted the hall we patched up all the holes and craters and instead of going back to using nails to hang all those pictures I used these two headed picture hangers with great success. They don't cut into the plaster by themselves. I drilled a small pilot hole for each spot and then screwed them in slightly. It leaves a bigger hole than nails but doesn't cause the plaster to crack. It's a lot easier to hang pictures on than trying to hammer in 50 nails.
