Review on 💻 ASUS VivoBook 17.3" FHD IPS LED Backlight Premium Laptop with AMD Ryzen 3 3250U, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, USB Type-C, WiFi, HDMI, Windows 10 by Jim Cox

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Is the third time a charm? Not in this case

I've bought and returned a Lenovo in the last two months (the largest volume was probably half of any other computer I've had and it was incredibly slow to boot); HP (Although Windows10 rebooted with a phone call from an HP technician, the laptop still couldn't see the internal DVD drive and I bought it to download music) and now I've come to the conclusion that I can Asus must return. I only lasted this long because I just couldn't believe I was in this position for the third time. WTF?! This VivoBook 17 crashes EVERY NIGHT at least once a night. I think it's the automatic updates. It freezes for 5 minutes and Ctrl/Alt/Del doesn't work. Maybe I should call ASUS support but I'm so disappointed I can't waste my time. When something brand new isn't working properly, do you want to fix it, or do you want something perfect right out of the box? I returned Lenovo to the office warehouse down the street. I had to pay $40 to return the HP to a Revain seller who didn't offer free returns. This was purchased from Revain so I'm hoping the return will be free. I bought this laptop because I needed the largest possible screen (17.3) for my heavy streaming (Hulu, Netflix, Prime, HBO, etc.). I also finally wanted to download all my music to one of my computers and it might be the newest one. This one is making a comeback, but I'd rate it like this: Pros: The screen is big enough for good viewing, colors and clarity are crisp, and the volume is great. It loads quickly and I like the large keyboard keys. I like that the weight is moderate and not too heavy. The look isn't bad, although I prefer the look of my old (2013) red ASUS. My old ASUS had TERRIBLE WiFi and I was glad it didn't have any connection issues. Cons: I HATE Windows 10 and believe that the problems with this computer are related to the operating system and not the hardware itself, but I'm not a techie. an expert and I don't care WHY the problem, I just want a working and reliable laptop with a 17 inch screen. So I'm shopping again. I don't know if I will stick with ASUS or try the fourth brand as a good product seems to come down to luck rather than brand name or reputation.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
