Review on Supersonic SC 2812 Portable Lightweight Widescreen by Steven Ali

Yes, it works with Direct TV Wireless Genie!

So far this TV is great, if my opinion changes over time I will come back and update it. The picture is really nice, it's bright and it works with the Direct TV Satellite Wireless Genie via the HDMI connection. Yes! That means I can put it in the garage, porch, garage, etc. and still have satellite reception. The downside is that there is no remote control code for this model in the Genie, but that's not a big deal. You'll use the TV Genie remote for practically everything except volume up and turning the TV on and off. You must use either the TV remote or the side buttons to adjust the volume and turn the device on and off. In any case, this can be a good thing, because the manual still recommends switching off the TV using the buttons. I still can't get enough of how good the picture is either on DTV with an antenna or via Direct TV. And once you've hooked up your Direct TV, go into the settings on the Direct TV remote and set the screen setting to 16:9 widescreen. Once I did that, the picture went from pretty darn good to superb. I left the plastic screen cover on for now, but will likely remove it later. CONS and the reason why it didn't get 5 stars. A) The included antenna is a joke. Of the 35 available OTA (wireless) channels in my area, only 3 were captured and none of them were large networks. Luckily I had another antenna from an old portable TV, put it up and was able to get 25 channels including NBC and CBS. I'm sure I'll get ABC on the street too. So at this price it should have a more powerful antenna. Be prepared to buy one if you don't have one and want to use it during a power outage or when no cable/satellite service is available. B) I chose this to watch while lying in bed and not to disturb anyone. Well, it's perfect in the sense that it doesn't emit as much light as my wall-mounted TV, but the stand really sucks. The only way to tilt it so that you can see it from a bed while lying down is books with supports under the metal part of the stand. Luckily it worked as the bedside table it sits on has a lip to keep it from tipping over. My old TV has a hole at the bottom where you can put it on a Polaroid Mini Tripod 8 inch heavy mini pan/tilt tripod for digital cameras and camcorders and adjust it as you like. This one has the same hole, but it's on the back of the TV between the two speakers, so it can't be pointed down as far as the jack would be on the bottom of the TV. C) No batteries are supplied for the remote control (AAA size required) I know it's a minor thing but for the price again they could throw in some cheap AAAs to get people started D) I wish the power cord would be a bit longer E ) I wish it had 2 HDMIs so I can connect SAT and Firestick at the same time. To play another you'll have to remove one as there's only one HDMI port. I don't have a port replicator so I don't know if that works or not. F) At this price it should come with a car charger but there isn't one. I have a converter in my Hurricane kit so I only use it if I need to charge it from the car during a power outage, but again all within this price range and portable there should be a cigarette lighter adapter included. PROS: It works with satellite TV that uses HDMI! (the main reason I needed this model) B) Great picture after proper setup in Direct TV C) Doesn't emit much light so the room stays dark and doesn't bother others E) Very light and portable to move around the room to the room. F) works with my wireless ONN headphones with transmitter using a remote control transmitter plugged into the audio jack on the TV. So no one is disturbed by the volume. If you have college kids sharing a dorm room, this TV, Wireless Headphones and Privacy Pop Bed Tent (Twin XL) - BLACK is the best gift you can give them. Links to products included.
