Review on The Ultimate Precision: OXO Good Grips Pro Y-Peeler Unveiled by Jana Bramlage

Let the peeling begin!

Oxo Good grip The i series Y peeler is a very good product. I also have a normal revolver knife, also "i-Series". I agree with other reviews that you can certainly get a similar cleaning experience with the standard oxo cleaner for a few bucks less. This cleaner is far superior to any other all purpose cleaner I have ever had, the straight or Y series is also known as the "Pro" series in the Oxo line so don't get confused there are only two series that Standard and the i series. Oxo Purifier, I have tried to identify the similarities and differences between these two Oxo products below. VALUE: When you shop at Revain, they often run 4 for 3 promotions on kitchen items, so you might find that you get an i-series or other item for free when you buy three other eligible items. The simple fact is that all blades dull over time. The i-series can also use spare blades, while the standard series doesn't. Replacement blades are about $4.99 for a set of 2, so it's less than buying a new squeegee and still economical when you have both the OXOi Series Straight Swivel Squeegee and the blades common to each i series fit. A: I'd say both machines perform about the same, although the i-Series peels off tough eggplant-like skins a little more easily. When peeling a lot of food, several potatoes, aubergines, etc., the i-Series is better suited for this task as the grip becomes a bit more comfortable over time. Both knives are comfortable, but with prolonged use the "lumps" on the standard handle make this knife a little less comfortable. CONSTRUCTION: Both knives have a stainless steel blade; both have non-slip handles and are the same shape and size. The i-Series is made from die-cast zinc and weighs about 4 ounces compared to about 2 ounces for a standard puller. Lasts on both sides closer to the top. They weren't particularly uncomfortable, but as mentioned above, I noticed them with prolonged use. The i-Series grip is smooth and contoured. These differences are very small and it doesn't seem like a standard cleaner is causing my hand pain or anything with repeated long-term use. In summary, there's little difference in performance and cost, so you might be better off using a standard depending on your own peeling frequency. I would say that anyone who needs a good cleanser will be happy with any Oxo cleanser.

Pros
  • The blade is easy to change with the OXO peeler replacement blade cartridge, sold separately.
