With an arthritic hip and the loss of flexibility that comes with that, it's impossible to get socks on without a device, let alone tie shoelaces. Yet if, like me, you still enjoy walking and hiking, you need something better than slip on shoes (not that slip-on hiking shoes are even available as far as I can tell). With these elastic laces I can get my hiking and athletic shoes on and off without having to touch the laces. I really can describe how much easier this is, especially at the gym, where it was very embarrassing to be struggling and twisting like a weirdo just to barely reach my laces.
