Doesn't connect to some Bluetooth devices

I have an ELM327 OBDii adapter that connects via Bluetooth. It cannot be connected to this car stereo. The Bluetooth connection app this device uses will not let me pair with the ELM327. The Bluetooth section of Android settings proper doesn't have Bluetooth as an option on the network like every other Android device. So it looks like I can't connect this OBDii module. Bluetooth works as I can connect to both my phone and music devices. My ELM327 is working as I can connect it to my Android phone. Is there a firmware update that can fix this problem?
