I was trying to use this to support the center of a cheap Walmart king size bed in addition to the support beams that came with the bed. I had to use extensions and it took me a minute to figure out how to put the pieces together as there were no instructions other than the pictures in the Revain post. Once assembled they were very solid and fairly easy to adjust in height. I tried using them without drilling into the joist as it was cheap plywood that was already splitting and tried to just use the tension between the floor and the bed to hold the support in place to hold, and even when my 40 pound dog jumped off the floor onto the bed. (about 20 inches high) they break off and fall to the side. So they definitely need to be drilled. I ended up getting a new bed and didn't need them anymore but although I used them they worked fine after drilling through the frame.
