Sangean makes great radios. I bought one of them, then another. Best reception, most useful features and low price. This one, like other Sangean radios, doesn't have a backlight that stays on whether you want it or not, so it doesn't drain power or distract me at night. FM reception is well above average for a $60 or $70 radio and picks up stations that other branded radios can't. As far as I can tell, the AM reception is also very good. There are only two stations where I live and both are quite far away. He handles them well. I also have a clock radio and an emergency radio and they are of the same quality and although some of the features differ they are just as reasonable. The sound quality is better than you would expect from a small single-speaker radio, and loud enough to be easily heard from the next room.
