Review on Fujitsu ScanSnap Portable Certified Refurbished by Anthony Heinrichs

difficult but good

My Experience: ATTENTION: Be careful with the buyer. Difficult to install - there are no independent drivers, you have to get the full software package, and you need online activation to verify the license before you can use the device, quite annoying. Activation failed twice and I had to uninstall and reinstall the entire software package twice before it decided to do what you want it to do. Some settings don't change anything, others do. Notebook Paper: Light seeps through the paper and picks up ink from the other side (even in single mode). This is mitigated by forcing the scanner to switch to color mode, although you can still see some bleeding but still workable for my use. Functionality: Nice when everything works. The software has some nice post-processing options, but the auto-naming feature could use a few more options. It tries to read the document and the auto titles, but if the item doesn't have a title (like my engineering homework) it just throws out a few random characters. Just leave the title on the date. The software is the weak point of this device. It's a solid piece of kit when I tested it. It crumpled up my homework but the picture came out perfect. This works best for formal documents that use harder paper than notepad, but I think it will still work for my use case. It seems they put so much effort into keeping people away from pirated software that the software itself has suffered. I don't want portability to install on multiple machines, but it says I can only activate on one machine, which I feel negates the portability benefit.
