toner works the same as OEM. I used branded toner, but it got very expensive. Not all third-party toners are created equal. I've used over 1/2 and haven't had any drying or smudging issues. Also, when I first bought it, I had yellow instead of black. When I contacted Vink they immediately sent me a black one for free and apologized for the wrong labeling. (Sometimes) Great communication, kind of a corner shop.
