Yes at first. The cutlery has horrible plastic splinters on the edges of the handles. Is it noticeable when you have space? Not much, but I really don't think the guests care in the slightest. I mean, they're going to use them once to eat them and then throw them away, right? Do you remember what the cutlery looked like at the last event you attended? Probably no. They do a great job and I honestly think they look really pretty! I use them for my wedding party. I was skeptical based on the reviews but I think most of the other reviewers are dramatic. If you want nice cutlery, you pay for good cutlery. If you want something that still looks nice in the area, is affordable, and serves its purpose, then this is a good deal. They are also larger than I expected.
