Review on Ultimate Protection for Home Electronics: Square D by Schneider Electric HEPD80 by Tim Paolucci

Easy installation for accessories and consumables

Some time ago, lightning struck near a lamppost in the courtyard, and the lamp and photocell on the pole evaporated. I was lucky that the surge stopped at the GFI output feeding the post as it fried open circuit. Given the cost of modern electronics and high homeowners insurance deductibles, it's a cheap sidestep to protecting gear. Installation at the bottom of the service entrance through a standard cutout was quick and easy. Connect the two black wires to each half of the 240v switch, the white and green wires to the bus bars and that's it. Update 2020: After 7 years of using this device I have sold the house where it is installed. There were several close lightning strikes during that time and never had any problems again. The new owners got a bonus they have no idea about.

Pros
  • As everything before
Cons
  • The list will be long.
