I use it as a duvet. I put it on a flat sheet under the covers. This adds a wonderful layer of warmth. It is very light but still offers good warmth. I'm a big fan of very high quality natural materials and this is a great pure cotton duvet. I live in Southern California; It is therefore suitable all year round as the weather here never gets cold enough to really require a wool/cashmere throw. If you get too hot at night you can fold back the comforter/quilt layer and end up with just the sheet, it still offers a really nice warm feeling. It is very well made with strong stitching.
