Review on Mega Construx Probuilder πŸ”“ Grayskull Multicolor: Unlock Limitless Building Fun! by Cliff Gibs

Amazing construction - stackable blocks

First off, this isn't Lego. The quality of the brick is not very good. The Mega has come a long way from the crumbly styrofoam bricks of Halo's early days. Now they use ABS, the same material as Lego. But the feeling is not the same. Bricks have sharper edges. Connecting and disconnecting requires a lot more effort than Lego. Your fingers will hurt a lot after creating such a massive set. But in many ways, it's worth stepping out of Lego's comfort zone to see another company design something on par with Lego D2C or Ultimate Collector Series sets. A few more words of caution. Yes, it looks like that cool playset you had when you were 9, but this is an adult/AFOL set. There is very little color variation throughout the assembly. These are thousands of very small parts that are difficult to see. Where guessing the wrong part causes you to lose 2 hours of work. This is an adult kit. You need an adult to even assemble the figures. Do not buy this for younger children. I would say a very advanced 11 or 12 year old, and even better 13+. Ideally 16+. Younger audiences will love playing with it once you're done, but hard to get it there. The set itself is amazing. A great combination of a recreation of a classic toy and a very clever brick building design. There is a lot of really great brick sculpture and architecture here, all in muted shades of sandy green. The set is huge when finished. About the size of a modular Lego building. This is a dollhouse design. And it perfectly recreates and improves upon the classic Castle Grayskull playset. Every detail and feature of the original toy has been recreated as building blocks. And on a scale that allows you to use more figures. Housed in a large beautiful box covered in beautifully rendered artwork, the set is divided into 4 smaller boxes. Each smaller box contains 10-20 numbered pouches. So Mega has finally followed Lego in that regard. Keep in mind it's not as slick as Lego. In each bag you will find many pieces that are left over after moving on to the next one. These residues are later used and absorbed in the assembly. This way you never empty your tray with active parts. It's a bit harder to keep up than a big Lego build. The instructions are a massive, square-bound book nearly 2 feet wide. Because of this, finding a surface to sit on that is left open is inconvenient. Make sure you have really good lighting. Some detail colors are very subtle. You need good light to see the manual's requirements and distinguish the parts. Assembly is learning intelligent assembly techniques. Mega has a larger selection of SNOT parts that they use in interesting ways. This is a fun build. A bit boring at times, but very useful when combining the different sections. What's particularly fascinating is that it uses some of the tricks and tricks you've only seen in fan-made Lego MOCs before. Not in real sets. For example a round tower. The versions of the figures included in this set are from the original He-Man toys and the comics that accompany the toys. So Teela is in her original Green Goddess form, not her cartoon version. Man At Arms doesn't have a mustache etc. Other action figures available in the series are cartoonish. The exclusive figure of this set is the sorceress. All in all this is a great set. And it will look spectacular with many of your adult Lego sets. Yes, these are megablocks (what's their name this week?). But this is one of the best mega deals and worth adding to the collection.
