Unfortunately, the biofiltration in my planted aquarium is overloaded and too many fish are added/overfed/overcleaned at once. I thought the existing filter would handle it, but phew, big cloud one day. Well I thought the ammo hole I had was helping the tide in the tank until the bacteria overwhelmed it but it kept building up and my poor fish was choking/overexerted. I looked at the bottle and my ammo lock had expired since 2017! So I immediately went to the local pet store to buy a small bottle of AmGuard and when I came back some of my fish were on the brink of death and my ammo supplies were off the charts. I quickly made an expert dose in my tank and my immobile fish sprang to life on their own in a matter of seconds. This gave me time, I immediately did a 50% water change and the fish looked much better and all survived the lack of ammo. For the next 72 hours I performed 50% daily water changes, removed the gravel and limited feeding until my ammo supply was under control and used this to keep the fish alive and happy while the tank ran. Now my aquarium is almost in circulation and my nitrates are finally up. I will always keep an unexpired bottle handy, great for emergencies!
