Works great

I bought this unit for $70, the lowest price I could find for a VHS player, just to copy my VHS tape collection to DVDs. and since it comes with a one-year warranty, I assume it's excellent for my needs. In other words, once my tapes are copied I don't expect to use them, if at all. It worked great right out of the box, was quiet and didn't leak, create gaps or splatter. It has automatic tracking, but as is often the case with various media, manual tracking can often be improved upon. Once I set the tracking, it didn't change when I started/paused playback while editing the tapes. Many of my VHS tapes were recorded in SP mode (6 hours per tape) and copying to DVD in EP mode (6 hours per DVD) resulted in no significant loss in quality compared to 6 hour tapes. In other words, a long recording time (tape or DVD) always degrades the picture quality somewhat, as you might expect; the viewer has to decide what is acceptable (maybe I'm not so picky). So, in a word, a great car for my current needs. If it breaks prematurely I will unsubscribe with details. Ed
