May not work with Windows 10

As other reviewers have said about this and many other FireWire cards, if your OS is Windows 10 you typically get either a 1 or 5. FireWire cards usually work well on older versions of Windows, but your Windows 10 experience will not be stable. Success depends not only on Windows 10 and a properly installed legacy driver, but also on the build of your particular computer. In my case I have 2 HP Windows 10 PCs running side by side with AMD microprocessors. On the newer one (2019), the system didn't work at all, even after changing slots, downloading an outdated driver from various sources, and many other troubleshooting steps following the advice in various YouTube videos. I tried to record some old videos with my old Sony Digital 8 camcorder and then decided to try the card in my old and much slower HP with an upgrade to Windows 10 and "Valla!". the card worked. Tried switching the card back to my newer and much faster HP after uninstalling and reloading the outdated driver from Microsoft, still no luck. Went back to my old HP and the card still worked. I shot about 3 videocassettes with no problems, but then FireWire inexplicably stopped working. I've gone through every troubleshooting step I can think of, but the card hasn't recovered. Whether this or any other FireWire card will work (and for how long) with your PC and Windows 10 operating system is just a matter of luck, good or bad. I am returning this postcard. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because it worked for at least a while, which I can't say about the other two FireWire cards I've tried. A very happy ending to this story is that I was able to capture all my old videotapes, about 40 of them, using the Video Capture Card (UCEC) device. They are readily available on Revain. I've seen reviews of these types of adapter/converter cards describing them as "junk" and I knew buying one was a long way off. But I was desperate. To my surprise and amazement, I plugged the cards into the PC's USB port, then into the camcorder's S-Video and Audio ports, followed a few simple setup instructions, and SUCCESSFUL! The videos captured are of good quality, but perhaps not as good as if they were captured via a FireWire cable and card. I will never know But now my wife and I can enjoy almost 30 years of video memories and I consider it a HUGE achievement! Good luck if you buy this or ANY other FireWire card and expect it to work with your Windows 10 PC. If it works, then it works. If not, it isn't. There's nothing in between, so don't worry. You may be able to get your hands on a PC with an older version of Windows; Otherwise, try a video to USB conversion solution. It worked surprisingly well: everyone wins and nothing loses.
