Starts the fine grinding process. I would compare it to the Shapton 1000 ceramic but lacks Shapton's excellent feedback. I use this 1200 Atoma along with 400 and 140 Atomas on a couple of old Japanese chisels I bought off ebay and gave up over the years. They all required right angle rectangular bevels and a completely flat back. I skimmed the ground with a T-4 Tormek and then switched to a 140 Atoma on a Mk-2 Veritas fixture set at the same 25-30Β° angle as the T-4 to grind out the indentations, generated by the water wheel. This happened at 140, then his 400 and 1200 plate dives were removed before moving on to 1000, then 3000 and 5000 Shapton stones, followed by 8000 Takenoko and finally natural Awase Toishi from the now closed Honyama mine. I don't think I'll ever need to repeat this process as now with perfectly flat and polished bevels and backs, hand coloring of the gems or a 3m stick on the glass would be all that would be needed. I've been sharpening Japanese chisels for 27 years and when the bevels are really flat there's no problem hand sharpening them and keeping them even. Here is the secret of the sweet land. This is both a possible ura dasha and a back polish.
