I was very pleased with this tachometer. The excitement died down when I had to find a special piece to secure the battery door screw and I found that Godzilla had tightened it. Why, especially when you put the batteries in first? The battery box was designed by someone who doesn't understand tolerances. The supplied batteries did not fit! The negative spring clips were completely crushed and it was still not possible to properly install the batteries with the button on the positive terminal. I had to find different AA batteries that seemed to be a bit shorter. They fit, but the batteries were stuck. Really now, how shit. Finally installed the batteries and found that the light source was misaligned. The beam had somehow been interrupted by an internal mechanism. Not only is the beam cut off, it also illuminates anything but evenly. The spot is not round like the listing. This affects the readings. The touch seems to work, although it's not clear which clues to believe. If you wrap black electrical tape around a lathe chuck, leaving a gap in the tape a beam width, you can get different readings depending on which part of the beam you are using. The illumination of the beam is much worse than what the camera shows. My camera overexposed the image. It's better than nothing. The price is good. It works most of the time, at least sometimes. The processing quality is very bad. Either the factory sold poor quality units, or the unit was not packaged adequately to protect against damage in transit. The outer envelope it came in was covered with a thin bubble wrap, but it failed to protect the indoor unit from a fall or hit. I'm thinking of returning it. I find that disappointing. Cheap things don't have to be cheap.
