Bought for a trip to Portland, OR in November for everyday use and recreation. The outer layer is thick enough to withstand harsh winds and is unquestionably waterproof. I went to several waterfalls and the water dripped onto the jacket but didn't penetrate the fabric or the inside. It's very easy to separate the layers with enough pockets in both to use them interchangeably. Used in snow, wind, rain and temperatures from 40 to 25 degrees and just wish they made pants to hide what the jacket can't. Totally recommended and worth the price.
