Review on TWAYRDIO Amateur Antenna 136 174MHz 400 470MHz by Robin Brinks

I tested it on the dyno in my car. This is Yeasu 8900 for wireless. This is quad band so I refuse to broadcast on 6 and 10m FM with this antenna. However, in 3 years I've only had one reply on VHF frequencies, so there hasn't been much of a loss. Installation was easy. It has a PL-259 connector so it fits right into my existing antenna base. No problem. I checked the SWR and it's about 1.5 at 2 meters and slightly higher at 70 cm. I started calling the local repeaters. I have a few that are only 5 miles from here. The transmission was good. That's how it was at the reception. So I tried a few repeaters 10-15 miles away. Amazing but it worked. With this short little antenna replacing the four foot long spike, I got about the same transmit and receive range. It was a surprise. I tested it directly up to 50 watts, the stated max. It worked great. Well, I didn't touch the antenna during the broadcast (I'm not that stupid), but I did touch it some time after the broadcast. I didn't feel any heat at all, so it clearly handles the power. I'll be leaving it on site for a while to try it out. I like the low profile (I used to have to remove the antenna to park in the garage). This adds a bit of stealth to the whole radio setup. I don't see any downside to losing two groups yet, but I'm not sure I care.
