I grew up with a police scanner in my house. Mom liked to listen. I've had mine for a while but my cat knocked it off the table and it broke. I haven't had that at all in the past two years. I spontaneously decided to buy a new one. I've always had a Radio Shack scanner. This time I went for the best quality Uniden. The quality is definitely better. It's not cheap plastic. This one is durable and built with quality in mind. I also love buttons. They all shine. It looks smooth. Programming is child's play. I didn't use the software that came with it. I just programmed it manually with the buttons. That's how I've always programmed scanners and feel comfortable with it. I found all my local city and state police. I just heard about two police chases in the last two days. Sirens blare and engines roar as the cops try to catch the bad guys. That was great! I like listening to fire engines. You won't miss a thing with this scanner. Everything at hand. In addition, about 50 airline frequencies are programmed. It's nice to hear the planes as they fly all day. Some police departments are fully digitized, which means you cannot see them with this scanner. However, many cities do not do this. So find out if your city is digital before you make a purchase. Also, this scanner brings me so much joy. I love it! I highly recommend it.
