Buy 2 Safety Kits

Use tips for safety of large vehicles such as SUVs and trucks.1. Buy 2 pairs or buy another set from another brand for support.2. GENTIFY LUBRICATE ALL THREADS TWICE. Once the day before and again on the day of application. Make sure you screw it on fully and leave it on overnight. I used STP Moly-EP (thick black) to lubricate everything. . With 4 spring loaded compressors and a liberal amount of grease, I used an M12 1/2 Milwaukee ratchet to secure the process past the initial 1/4 of the way…

Great compressor for the DIY enthusiast.

I've only used it once so I'm hoping it doesn't fail like another reviewer said but for now I'm giving it 5 stars. Changed coils from 13" 650# to 14" 700# on my Icon coilovers for my Tacoma. I've tried this before with 600# to 650# coils on a friend's car and standard rental compressors. We literally thought we were going to die. This type of compressor felt much more secure and I have never felt less secure. Spent about 2.5 hours including removing and installing tires. We spent almost half a…

Shankly Spring Compressor Kit worked well

This coil spring compressor kit worked exactly as it should. I was able to replace the front spring dampers on my 2014 Sierra with this Shankly spring compressor kit. I've posted a video on YT using this kit if you want to see the tool in action. My only complaint is that the instructions for use are very vague. The instructions also directly contradict the listing's statement that an impact wrench cannot be used. The instructions included with the kit indicate that an impact wrench MAY be…

  • Some little things

I have traditionally used hook spring compressors (two hooks on a spiked threaded rod) - they work well but not very close - I have used them to install luggage racks on my Subaru - worked great! I followed the advice here and gave the internal threaded rod a good lube, put it back together and raced. I suspect people who have had trouble with this either use percussion tools (no-no for spring compressors) or have them at a high angle to the coils so they stick or something. I had absolutely no

Please note my initial review was after just one use but the product worked exactly as intended. I felt more confident using it because it is very heavy. I used a rented one before and the whole compressor buckled as soon as I compressed the spring which made me a little nervous. I never felt like this car was going to fail, and a full-size pickup didn't. I've seen people install Doc Stars for lack of instructions, but it's a pretty basic tool and a lot of things don't come with instructions…

Works like clockwork

I used this to replace the front shock absorbers on my 2014 GMC Sierra Denali. I have used J-Hook style spring compressors in the past and they have never been so incredible to use. They always came out of the auto parts store's loan program, and while they worked, they always seemed a little sketchy in their jobs. These were the largest coil springs I've ever used this type of compressor on and I've heard other people have trouble with Loaner compressors on this application so I figured it…

Easier to use than filmed, no tutorial videos.

This is by far one of the BEST tools I've bought this year! Once used it was very easy to replicate this process for other shock/strut projects. I found: 1. That the knurled lock ring needs to be tightened every other turn of the clamp screw. It "weakens" because the spring is flattened.2. The lower locking jaws could be a bit longer. Being short, initial setup was a little awkward as they wanted to slide. You can only tighten the knurled ring enough because the spring is inclined when at…
