It's hard to judge how effective an air quality product is without measuring air quality, but I can review the installation process and provide anecdotal evidence of its effectiveness. First, the product comes well packaged, looks well built, and has simple instructions. Tools required: 1) a drill with a 3/32" bit and a 2" router (I used the one you would use to cut a circle for a door lock) 2) a medium Phillips screwdriver and 3) masking tape. Step 1: Cut/tear the template from the owner's manual and glue it to the air duct (cold air side), Step 2: Drill two 3/32" holes for mounting screws, Step 3: Drill a 2" Hole for the UV lamp (follow step 3 after step 2 as step 3 tends to break the pattern, at least for me). Step 4: Install the UV100A1059 block. Step 5: Install the lamp, being careful not to touch it or leave oil on the lamp (otherwise, just wipe it with a damp cloth). Step 6: Plug it in and make sure the blue light is on. included. That's all . very easy and takes less than 10 minutes. As for anecdotal evidence that the device has any value. My wife just had chemo and she has no immune system. Unfortunately, I caught a cold while she was leaving the hospital. So I installed UV100A1059. I am happy to report that my wife has not picked up my germs and is recovering beautifully. Was it UV100A1059? I think that helps it run silently in the background and there is scientific evidence on the effects of UV light on bacteria and viruses. I would recommend it to anyone suffering from allergies, a weakened immune system or living in a humid environment where mold can grow.
