Customers beware

Like many other reviewers, I fell in love with these needles as soon as I started knitting with them. Carbon fiber is amazing. It's light, stiff and doesn't feel cold. Other reviewers use the word "warm" but that's misleading. They are not cold, at most room temperature, but also not warm in the truest sense of the word. However, the tips of the needles feel cold because they are not made of carbon fiber. I was in the middle of my very first project with these needles and the metal coating started chipping off the tips, leaving silver grains on my fingers. Then the tips began to scratch the fingers and cling to the yarn. I understand that the needles will show signs of wear after a while. This happened to the very first thing I knit. All the excitement I had when I first started using needles is gone. Eventually I had to use sandpaper to smooth out one of the metal links because it got caught on the yarn. The carbon fiber is the only thing that seems outstanding about these needles. The bits and pieces that connect carbon fiber don't even come close. I will keep looking for a set of really good quality needles. You are not. Update 11/1/14: After an initial bad period I have continued to use needles and have enjoyed using them again. I'm used to the yarn sticking to the gaps and the needles coming out on their own. Then I just used 3 for the first time and before I could finish the cast one of the tips just fell off. Next I bought Addi Turbos. If you want premium, buy premium. These needles are a trick and they will fall apart.
