Review on Xikar Xi3 Cigar Cutter With Unique Teardrop Shape For 54 Ring Gauge Cigars, Made Of High-Quality 440 Stainless Steel With HRC 57 Hardness, And Redwood Handles by Jordan Doyle

Very functional, well designed, so-so fit and finish

The cutter is well designed, works well, and is attractive, but closer inspection shows some fit-and-finish issues with the wood scales. One is perfect, but the other doesn't fit quite right and has a flaw in the sawing of the groove that attaches it to the cutter. These are purely cosmetic issues, and will almost certainly never be noticed by anybody else while I use it, but this is not a cheap cutter. Also, on a variant (redwood handle) designed specifically to be attractive, fit and finish issues are less forgivable. It's also worth noting that the blades aren't nearly as sharp as Xikar suggests; on mine, one of the blades has visible nicks in the edge (it still cuts well, though). This is my first Xikar cutter, so I have no idea whether issues like these are common. If I ever need another cutter, I'd very likely u buy another Xikar--the mechanism is wonderful. I'll just probably stick with their plastic or metal-handled cutters. Their woodwork just doesn't have my confidence.

Pros
  • Clean crisp cut. Very satisfied with this tool.
Cons
  • The redwood handles may be prone to discoloration over time
