I have used many sharpening stones over the years. For the money it's hard to beat. Cuts well, quickly and evenly. These are all the sharpening stones you really need for kitchen or hunting knives. That stone and a nice leather thong to polish your edge from time to time and you'll be golden. One thing I did that you might want to consider is that it is sold as an "oil stone" and comes with oil on it. I soaked this stone in a solution of warm water and degreaser for about an hour (Purple Power). Then I cleaned it with soap and water and then rinsed well with warm tap water. I only use WATER on this stone when sharpening. Works perfectly. AND NO WASTE. But first it needs to be degreased.
