I have been using Arctic Silver products since about 2002. I've gone through interactions with Arctic Silver (no number), 2, 3, 5 over the years. If you want to run your CPU at the lowest possible temperatures (given heatsink and airflow limitations), Arctic Silver is by far the best option. Heat is the great destroyer of computer components (hard drive, processor, memory, etc.). Anything that reduces heat will greatly increase component life. Adequate airflow should be the first consideration, but when it comes time to transfer heat from your CPU to that airflow, thermal grease (Arctic Silver 5) is phenomenal at that heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink/fan and then into the airflow . .Over the years I've learned that less is more. The thinnest continuous layer (with no air gaps) of Arctic Silver applied to the surface of the processor provides the highest heat transfer performance. It may take a little time, effort, and practice to achieve that super thin layer, but the results are amazing. I've tried competitor thermal compounds and none come close to the excellent performance that Arctic Silver demonstrates hour after hour, day after day, and year after year. As long as you don't damage the heatsink relative to the CPU, you don't need to reapply thermal paste due to age. Arctic Silver 5 is just a great thing!
