The story behind it is reason enough (in my humble opinion) to buy it. Tuks are made in Calcutta by very poor women. Your purchase supports a good cause by creating jobs for women in need. I have no regrets at all that I bought them for this reason. I didn't find them useful for cleaning clothes so I use them as potholders. And I love them for this use! However, you can't use them for very high temperatures - you'll need a thicker oven mitt. I use them to spin/spin a pot in the oven, or to remove a hot lid from a pot on the stove, or to hold the sides of a pot while cooking, or to hold the sides of a pot while I strain water. . For that it works great. I really like having a smaller toockie for potholders. I find that most oven mitts are too big for something like this (and I have a gas range and the oven mitt can burn/catch fire very easily). The small size of the Toockie is a big advantage for me in these cases. I also use them as coasters for hot drinks. They work very well for this, although technically they are not designed for it. I love supporting the use of organic cotton and supporting poor women's causes. This is a win-win situation.
