I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ kit to use as a small database server on my network. I had an old 7 inch monitor with a capacitive VGA touch screen that was used earlier in a flight sim setup. Now I haven't bothered to tweak the touchscreen functionality (because it's a server always sitting behind the console). I've now read that I needed to find an active HDMI-to-VGA device to work with the Pi, so I went with this one because it could receive external power. However, I'm very happy to report this , at least with this old one, the monitor is low resolution, I do NOT need to externally power the converter, and it works great! Boxing, I didn't have to fiddle with any configuration settings on the Pi 3 B+, it was just plug and play.
