Out of the box I'm not sure how this router compares to others but if you know anything about flashing router firmware there is some options to improve comfort usage. Please note that flashing alternative firmware will void your warranty if you are unable to restore the original firmware. This is not always possible; In fact, you can "bricked" the router. Proceed at your own risk. Externally, this router is almost identical to the D-Link DIR-615, and you can install firmware for the D-Link product on it. I have found that the D-Link firmware has more features than the original Trendnet firmware which is frankly dumb and only offers the most basic features. The boot firmware that will be loaded on this router is located at [.] Once installed, you can download the latest firmware from D-Link for hardware revision C. The DD, which is very popular (at least for techies), goes a little further - the WRT firmware is available in beta version, which means that it has not been fully tested for functional stability. You won't find it on the official DD-WRT download site, but it is available at [.] (latest version). One of them is set up as an access point to my FIOS router (a 56Mbps wireless router that cannot be replaced due to the set-top box's coax network requirements). DD-WRT offers wireless segment connectivity, so I will be buying another one to connect my PS3 and media player to the network. I am currently using another Trendnet product, the TEW-647 Gaming Extender, with a switch for it - works fine but I would like to reduce the number of components and cables. Check out the DD-WRT forums for background information. This little router has a firmware update. I like that the antennas are detachable (unlike the newer TEW-652) and swap out the 3dB gain antennas for 5dB gain. You can increase the transmission power on the router as you wish, which DD-WRT makes available to you as an option. This little piano-shaped black box fits seamlessly into my home network.
